Performances

 Auditions
August 10 & 11
One of the classics of mid-20th century English theatre, Priestley’s daring play takes place in an English industrial city, where an eminently respectable British family is subject to a routine inquiry in connection with the suicide of a young girl. An inspector calls on the family to interrogate them, and during the course of his questioning, each of them is implicated in the girl’s undoing. Before the evening is over, the formerly friendly and close-knit family members reveal themselves to be selfish, self-centered or cowardly – their good humor turning to acid and their fellowship to disdain.

This new adaptation of the play that inspired several movies is a warm, gentle comedy that follows the tangled tale of Parfumerie employee George Horvath. Just days before Christmas, George’s boss fires him after mistakenly suspecting him to be the lover of his unfaithful wife. Meanwhile, George’s own love life goes awry when he discovers that the stranger he has fallen in love with through a secret correspondence is none other than Amalia Balash, a co-worker with whom he constantly feuds. For the employees of the Parfumerie, only the truth can lead to a happy resolution in this old-fashioned, romantic Christmas tale.

As the British Industrial Revolution dawns, young Ada Byron Lovelace (daughter of the flamboyant and notorious Lord Byron) sees the boundless creative potential in the “analytic engines” of her friend and soulmate Charles Babbage, inventor of the first mechanical computer. Ada envisions a whole new world where art and information converge – a world she might not live to see. This is a music-laced story of love, friendship and the edgiest dreams of the future. Jane Austen meets Steve Jobs in this poignant pre-tech romance heralding the computer age.

Seemingly comfortable in his charming Connecticut home, Sidney Bruhl, a successful writer of Broadway thrillers, is struggling to overcome a string of recent failures and a shortage of funds. When a student in his writing seminar sends him a new script – a thriller that Sidney recognizes immediately as a potential Broadway hit – Sidney sees an opportunity. With his wife’s help, he devises a plan to “collaborate” with the student, an idea which the younger man quickly accepts. Suspense mounts steadily as the plot begins to twist and turn with devilish cleverness that builds to a still-startling finale.

This Broadway hit about the trial of two Marines for complicity in the death of a fellow Marine at Guantanamo Bay sizzles on stage. The Navy lawyer, a callow young man more interested in softball games than the case, expects a plea bargain and a cover-up of what really happened. Prodded by a female member of his defense team, the lawyer eventually makes a valiant effort to defend his clients and, in so doing, puts the military mentality and the Marine code of honor on trial.

"Gadzooks! What a beautiful night for a murder!" hisses the villain. Yes, there's plenty of dirty work going on at the crossroads as that fiendish scoundrel, Cassius Carstairs, pursues the pure Carlotta Flower, the persecuted heroine who is more sinned against than sinning. This wildly funny melodrama gives the audience every chance to hiss the villain and applaud the hero and heroine, and to have the time of their lives. With tongue in cheek it incorporates all of the surefire situations used in the old time melodramas and the result is a wonderfully happy piece of nonsense with laughs tumbling over each other in rapid succession.
