Tips and Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is it okay if I've never auditioned before?
A: Absolutely! We welcome first-timers and provide support and guidance throughout the audition process.
Q: What should I bring to the audition?
A: Please bring water to stay hydrated and wear comfortable clothes and shoes for the best experience.
Q: How long do auditions last?
A: Auditions may last up to two hours each night.
Q: Can minors audition?
A: Yes, minors are welcome to audition. However, children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at auditions, and during rehearsals if cast. Parents or guardians are encouraged to help on production workdays.
Q: What are workdays?
A: Workdays are days when the cast and crew meet at the theatre to help build or decorate the set, find or make costumes, paint, gather props, decorate the front window, and things like that. There is something for everyone to do, no matter what your skill level, and you may even learn a new skill!
Q: What if my question isn’t answered here?
A: You can message us on Facebook or email [email protected] if you have further questions about auditions.
Q: Are there any Fees?
A: We are a volunteer-run non-profit community theater that is supported by underwriters, grants, ticket sales, and the community. While we don’t pay our cast or crew, we also do not charge production fees to be in a show. You are asked to provide your own makeup, and occasionally costume items or shoes as available.
Q: How do I join backstage crew, or help out aside from acting?
Remember: Auditions are a chance for us to get to know you and for you to express yourself creatively. They're not just about selecting a cast; they're about building a community of artists who support and inspire each other. So, take a deep breath, do your best, and most importantly, enjoy the experience.
We can't wait to see what you bring to the stage!

Audition Schedule
- Audition dates for the entire season are published here.
- You can also follow our Facebook page and subscribe to our mailing list for audition notices.
- Our auditions are open to everyone and typically held over two nights. You're welcome to attend either or both nights, unless otherwise specified by the director. If call-backs are required, the director will go over the details.
Before Auditioning
- Preparation: Review the play synopsis and character notes on the audition page ahead of time.
- Audition Form: You can save time by downloading an audition form audition form here and filling it out ahead of time. Please bring a printed copy with you, as directors don’t accept electronic audition forms. Blank copies of the audition form will also be available at auditions.
- Theatrical Resume (optional): If you happen to have a theatrical resume, please bring it along and turn it in with your audition form.
The Day of Auditions
- Please try to arrive a few minutes early so you have time to fill out paperwork. You can park in marked on-street parking near the theatre. Use the front entrance, and fill out an audition form at the lobby counter if you haven’t brought one with you.
- Join us in the theatre, hand in your completed form at the director's table located in the audience area, then take a seat and wait for your turn to shine!
The Audition Process
- When called, you'll be assigned a character and a side (a section or except from the play) to read. You'll come up on stage and this will be your moment to show us your interpretation of the character and your abilities!
- The director will likely have everyone try several different readings, and often try different combinations of actors on stage.
Audition Hints
- Make big choices, it’s your one chance to show what you can do, so go big.
- Show, don’t tell.
- Use your space, but find your center and stay steady. Try not to fidget or rock.
- Keep your paper down and away from your face – the director needs to see your face, not the sides.
- You can restart if you want – just ask.
- Don’t forget to breathe!
- Get to know people while you’re there.
- Keep showing up, eventually you’ll get cast.
- Have fun–it’s just community theatre!
When will the Cast be Announced?
- Cast lists will be posted on the StageCenter Facebook page a few days after auditions.
- If you weren’t cast, don’t be discouraged. Just because there wasn’t a perfect role for you in this play doesn’t mean there won’t be a perfect one in another play. We hope to see you at our next audition. And we hope you come see the show!
Time Commitment
Prepare for the time commitment if you are cast in the show
- Rehearsals are typically Monday through Thursday, 7 pm through 9 pm. Depending upon your role, you may be called for fewer nights.
- Participation in at least two production workdays, usually Saturdays from 10 am to 2 pm, is asked of all cast and crew. There’s more than set construction, we need everyone’s skills!
- Document any time conflicts on your audition form. Known conflicts can usually be worked around if known ahead of time.
- In case of emergencies or unforeseen circumstances, notify the Stage Manager immediately if you'll be late or absent. Hold up your commitment to the rest of the cast; excessive tardiness or absences may lead to your part being re-cast.
